Internships

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is committed to expanding the public understanding and appreciation of American Art to enrich the lives of all people. To this end, the Museum presents over 20 exhibitions annually and countless programs for children, family, and adult audiences. Geographically, the Museum primarily serves the 406,828 people living in and within a 20-mile radius of Fort Wayne and, secondarily, the Museum serves the 800,000+ people living in the 13 counties of Northeast Indiana. The Fort Wayne Museum of Art believes that a vital subset of achieving our goals is the cultivation, training and education of the museum professionals of tomorrow.

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art Internship Program provides the student with a general introduction to the administrative, curatorial, and education departments. A unique strength, and simultaneous challenge, of a small- or mid-size museum is the necessity for each staff member to have a wide variety of skills, adaptable to many situations. An invaluable opportunity for any art or art history student who enjoys a diverse and engaging work environment!

The Intern will report to a senior staff member and specific responsibilities will be contingent upon the internship agreement.

Each ideal candidate will possess excellent computer and communication skills with a major in studio art, art history, or museum studies. The individual should be motivated, can efficiently multi-task, and take initiative on projects. Attention to detail and organization skills are a must.

The internship program is open to college and graduate students and recent graduates. This internship is offered on a volunteer only basis. Students desiring academic credit for their internship must arrange for it themselves with their academic institution. To correspond with class or work, interns can arrange flexible schedules. However, some nights and weekend hours may be required during special events.
