Docents
The Education Department is always looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with children to act as Docents or Museum Guides for the FWMoA. A love of art is necessary but a lot of art knowledge is not. You will be trained and educated on every exhibition. Sound like something you might be interested in? Call Max Meyer, 260-422-6467, ext. 321 or meyer@fwmoa.org.
The FWMA docents (tour guides) are an important part of the museum’s outreach program, helping the museum provide tours to 11,000-18,000 students and adults annually. In some cases, docents provide school children with their first experience with art. Some 30-35 people are currently volunteering as docents. Many have been involved for as long as 20 years, others have joined more recently.
Who Can Be a Docent?
You! Anyone who has even a beginner’s interest in art is welcome to join us!
What are the Requirements?
A love of learning and sharing, enthusiasm and reliability are the main characteristics of great docents.
New Docent Training.
The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is looking for a few good docents. The best docents like to look at art (even the modern stuff!) and interact with people of all ages. They are curious, open-minded and eager to learn. Most of them don’t have art training or teaching experience. They commit approximately six hours per week during the school year to continuing training and guiding tour groups through the museum.
