Print & Drawing Study Center

Brett DePalma, Four Corners of the World, 1989, lithograph intaglio linocut & woodcut

The history of American printmaking stretches back over three centuries and is as vibrant as any other medium in the visual arts.  However, full appreciation of the fine art print has long been clouded by confusion which stems from the print-making process and delicacies and complexities of the medium itself.   To demystify all of this and open everyone’s eyes to the rich and engaging realm of prints and printmaking. “The PDSC is an exciting new resource for not only the arts community and scholars but also for the general public and lay-visitors.  It’s a great way to highlight one of the most vital segments of our Collections,” Curator of American Art Sarah Aubrey said.

Devoted to study and exploration, the PDSC is a hybrid of gallery, research laboratory, and classroom space which will be available both by appointment and offer regular public programming during posted hours.

According to Curator Sachi Yanari-Rizzo, “The PDSC will give visitors the ability to interact with works on paper that are not on public view.  Studying a work up close without a glass barrier is an entirely different experience.

Director of Adult Programs and University Studies Amanda Martin states, "We see an addition like the PDSC as becoming the catalyst for educational opportunities not only for veteran professionals, but for first-time visitors as well. Everything from class visits to guided tours to individual appointments for research will be possible. Having the chance to educate many groups of people with original works of art, right at their fingertips, is valuable beyond measure."

The Print & Drawing Study Center is currently open by appointment only. Contact Sachi Yanari-Rizzo at
