President Roosevelt’s ambitious New Deal was meant to reinvigorate a struggling America: its farmers, bankers, artists--even its musicians. 1934 in Concert brings critically acclaimed pianist Leslie Amper to the FWMoA stage to present a lecture and recital exploring the musical activity stimulated by the Federal Music Project of the 1930s. The recital includes composers Amy Beach, W.G. Still, Roger Sessions, Aaron Copland, and others whose work all represent the search for an American voice.
Ms. Amper studied music at Oberlin College and New England Conservancy, and since her debut in New York City, has delighted audiences nationwide at such places as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Smithsonian American Art Museum with her unique performances that draw parallels between visual art and music.
